Our story

Why we started Nela-Nela

We (Amy, Tom and Tim) started Nela-Nela to provide a bridge between Georgian tea artisans and our home countries. We learned to savour the Nela-Nela philosophy of slowing down over many pots of botanical teas.

We imagine a world in which people are able to enjoy tea that supports communities and ecosystems, rather than mass-produced poor quality tea.

Unexpected roads led us to Georgia

The three of us have lived in Georgia for several years. Amy cycled here from Herefordshire in England, and stayed. Tom hiked his way to the Caucasus from Sussex and Tim arrived from the States via a Georgian friend whose family grows tea. He now has a house in the same village as Shota, our tea maker.

Beginnings to now

Nela-Nela started as a direct-to-consumer tea brand offering Georgia’s fermented botanical teas. We soon realised that we could be much more useful helping established tea brands to source teas and herbs from tea makers. We have extensive knowledge and connections throughout Georgia’s tea industry.

In Georgian, Nela-Nela is a philosophy that means slowly slowly. Don’t hurry, everything works out in good time.

What we stand for

compassion

We started Nela-Nela to help others in a meaningful way. Nela-Nela will act with compassion – towards artisan makers, communities and you.

innovation

We value experimentation to expand the realms of flavour and quality. We want to create innovative tea experiences that get better and better.

nature

We refuse to be a company that damages the nature we love so dearly. Nela-Nela will always be plastic-free and we will always seek the most sustainable methods possible. Our products will always be completely natural.

We’re a new company just getting off the ground, but we hope to be part of a more optimistic future – Nela-Nela.

Feel free to get in touch about anything – we’d love you to join us on this journey.
